THE ELECTRIC BLUE SOLAR RESEARCH VESSEL

The Electric Blue Solar Research Vessel (“Electric Blue SRV”) is a 40-foot long, 24-foot wide wood-fiberglass trimaran, weighing over 25,000 pounds, believed to be the largest 100% solar-powered (non-hybrid) boat in North America.  It was designed by Arthur Piver, multi-hull vessel pioneer, as an ocean-going sailing vessel with 4 staterooms and living area for live aboard use.  In 2015, Electric Blue was renovated and equipped by Electric Blue Power to serve as an RD&E platform for all-solar marine propulsion, under Inventor and Captain Lee Wheelbarger.  It has sailed over 1500 miles at sail cruising speeds and conducted sea trials for over 4 months with minimum battery storage that is easily increased for overnight and continuous sailing, proving affordable 100% solar propulsion works.
